Sydney's APEC Lockdown

Everyone asked to stay home while the VIPs are in town for the APEC Meeting. Not to deterred, we decided to take a drive into town on the day a public holiday was declared.

There were police and security everywhere . . . . . . . This was George St leading to The Rocks . . . . . . .
Police frequently stopped traffic for motorcades and even pedestrians !
Some streets were totally blocked off . . . . . . .
And rubbish bins were sealed off from prying eyes . . . . . .

For a short video clip of our drive . . . . . (sorry about the irrelevant audio)

Looking for the Pasha Bulker

We drove to Newcastle to see this .........
.... the Pasha Bulker that ran aground at Nobby's Beach and has so far refused to budge.

This was the closest we (and thousands of others) could get to it.

Even at that distance the ship's size was awesome.

The best view was some distance away along the foreshore. I think the authorities lost an opportunity to take advantage of this spectacle - instead of closing the beach they could have organised conducted tours and charge for them !
