Last Night at Taipei

We spent our last Taiwan dollars at the Formosa Regent Hotel (not where we stayed) - apart from our transport fare to the airport the next day.

Stewed American beef and rice for me.

American rib fillet and noodles for Kay.

View of our restaurant (Azie) one of several nice looking restaurants in the hotel. Our table - the second vacant table from the right at the top of the photo.

Taipei Soaks !

Four out of the five full days we had at Taipei were soakingly wet.

Taipei city centre, view from a large shopping centre complex.

Umbrellas galore at Danshui, just north of Taipei city. We spent most of the time at Starbucks.

Taipei Photos

Some photos of Taipei --

Taipei 101 - sounds like an entry university course - the tallest building in the world. Miserable weather.

Outside the Palace Museum - this large building has space to display only a fraction of the historic treasures. The rest buried are in storage within the mountain behind.

The up market food courts of Taipei - below Kay's noodles and my oyster omelette and fried rice.

Chiang Kai Shek's memorial. Unlike Mao in Beijing, his body is not on display.

Changing of the guards at the Dr Sun Yat Sen's memorial.

Changchun Rd at Zhongshan where our hotel was.

New Epping "Underground" Station

The structure of the new underground station at Epping taking shape; isn't it supposed to be an underground station ? Why is it rising so tall above the existing plateform?

Siev-X

My apologies as regards to the post below, it was actually 353 people on the boat.
Yvonne

As I see it ....

Hello Yvonne here!

19th October will mark the 5th anniversary of the sinking of 535 asylum seekers on their way to Christmas Island on a boat dubbed
Siev-x. Here is an article about an attempt to establish a memorial in Canberra. Hopefully one day there will be a permanent national memorial we can visit.
